The Brazilian artist Rosângela Rennó has produced over 15 artist books as well as numerous museum presentations and exhibitions around the world. Rennó is not only an experienced designer of the photographic material and the objects in the room, but also of her artist books, which in limited editions are now obtain high prices.
The book becomes both an object itself and a collection: it is not unusual for a thematic encyclopaedia or an archive to be created.
As a kind of overview, Rennó wanted to show a selection of these books in Cologne:
As : Espírito de tudo, [The Spirit of Everything] from 2017.
In an exhibition in 2016, Rennó presented objects on the themes of perfume, the Traveling Water and Laterna Magica devices in an elaborate installation that appealed to all the senses of the viewer.
Or in: Rio Montedvideo, 2015, Rennó uses newspaper images to illuminate the overlooked stories of everyday protagonists during the political upheavals in Uruguay and throughout Latin America. In the book she also refers to the fragile projections in the exhibition space.
In: Menos-valia [Auction] from 2013, Rennó names for a collection of flea market purchases not only the price the objects had at the beginning of the negotiations, but also the estate and value the object had at the end. She thus distinguishes them with their 'less value'.
